Addressing Design and Human Factors Challenges in Cyber-Transportation Systems

Abstract:

Hundreds of millions of people travel in vehicles every day around the world. How to improve road safety and efficiency using cyber technologies (such as connected vehicles) is a critical issue in today’s society. We have been working on a NSF cyber physical system (CPS) project that addresses some key challenges in the design and evaluation of cyber transportation systems (CTS), taking into consideration issues related to human-factors. The talk will focus on the design of novel protocols for transmission and processing of collision warning messages and a unique 3-in-1 integrated traffic, driving and networking (ITDNS) simulator as a R&D tool to evaluate emerging connected vehicle and autonomous driving technologies. Key contributions from our project will be summarized, along with important future directions.
