Summer 2020 Internship Opportunity

The Institute for Software-Integrated Systems' Summer Internship Program offers paid summer internship opportunities for current undergraduate and graduate students from both Vanderbilt and other universities. The Institute interns will participate in a variety of projects that offer students challenging and engaging experiences. The internship duration is 10 weeks starting remotely on June 1, 2020. While the structure of each project is different, internships provide:

  • Opportunities to gain real world in applied research in advanced technical fields
  • Experience with electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science research
  • Chances to work with premier universities, research labs, and industry partners
  • Competitive stipend

COVID-19: In light of the rapidly changing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the University's recent announcement to suspend in-person meeting for the remainder of the semester, we exploring options for remote internships. The program coordinator will contact accepted applicants with details.


The Institute is a professional research organization at the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering, located just off campus on Nashville's Music Row. Our work focuses on sytems, with deeply integrated software, that are networked, embedded and cyber-physical. We conduct cutting-edge, world-class research on real-world problems in the following areas:

  • Model-Integrated Computing
  • Distributed Real-Time and Embedded Systems
  • Wireless Sensor Networks
  • Model-Based Design of Cyber-Physical Systems
  • Systems Security and Privacy


  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institution
  • Have completed at least one year of college at the time of application
  • Have an undergraduate cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Be 18 years or older prior to the start of the internship

  • Applicants are reviewed on a rolling (first come, first serve) basis. The process is competitive, so apply as soon as possible.
  • Applicants will typically receive a decision within 2 to 3 weeks of submitting the application.
