FAQs

Visible to the public

Is the program going to be in-person or virtual?

We anticipate having both remote and in-person options.

How long will the program run?

The program typcially runs for 10 weeks with a start date sometime in late May or early June.

Is there housing available and how much will it cost?

The program does not offer on-campus housing. Please visit the links below for details about housing options.

How will I be paid?

Payments are distributed bi-weekly via direct deposit. If you are a VUSE student, payments will be distributed monthly via direct deposit.

Can I take a vacation?

Yes, with approval from your supervisor. For any vacation time taken, you will need to amend your end date to fulfill the 10 week obligation. E.g. If your start date is June 1st and you take a week of vacation time, your end date would be August 14th instead of August 7th. If this happens/is approved by your supervisor, please also let Gerilynn Pearce know at gerilynn.pearce@vanderbilt.edu as she will need to extend your last work day in the system.

Is the program binding? Am I required to participate if I am selected for the program?

Once an award offer has been made, the students are given a window of time to accept or decline. This time is meant to give students the opportunity to weigh all options that may be available to them for the summer.

I've been accepted, what are the next steps?

If accepted, all interns will be sent and asked to complete the intake webform by 11:59pm on Friday, April 8th.

Are applications from international students accepted?

Yes. However, this year we can only accommodate students who will be physically present in the U.S. for the duration of the internship program, regardless of citizenship status.

I'm an international student who has never worked in the U.S. before; how do I obtain a SSN (Social Security Number)?
