Dear Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC) community,

NIST and DHS S&T will co-host the 2018 kickoff conference for the GCTC - Smart and Secure Cities and Communities Challenge (SC3).

  • When: Feb 6-7, 2018
  • Where: FHI 360 Conference Center in Washington DC. (1825 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009, USA)

The GCTC-SC3 conference will be immediately followed by IES-City Framework Release Workshop on Feb 8. GCTC community members may choose to stay one more day and join the IES-City Workshop as well. The agenda of GCTC-SC3 kickoff conference will be made available in a few weeks.

Free registration for GCTC-SC3 kickoff and IES-City Workshop is open at

The goal of kickoff conference is to encourage smart community/city and Internet of Things (IoT) stakeholders to build teams to address shared issues in various sectors such as transportation, public safety, utility, wireless, city data, agriculture & rural, and data governance/exchange. 2018 round will encourage participating teams to have additional focus on cybersecurity and privacy as the first order concern, as well as all existing GCTC goals such as replicability, scalability and sustainability.

  • If you don't have an action cluster yet, but already working on smart solutions that can be replicated and scaled in cities and communities, please visit GCTC-SC3 Participation Guide to submit a worksheet and create a new action cluster.
  • If you are an existing action cluster, you don't need to submit a full worksheet, but still need to submit the answers to the new question on cybersecurity and privacy in the worksheet.
  • If you want to explore the possibilities to join, we will provide a partnership building opportunity led by professional facilitators. Feel free to attend.
  • Anyone interested in IoT and smart cities/communities can attend.
