NSF Offers Supplemental Funding to Support K–12 AI Teams for Presidential Challenge

The National Science Foundation’s Directorate for STEM Education has issued a Dear Colleague Letter inviting supplemental funding requests to support the Presidential AI Challenge: Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth. The initiative aims to ignite student interest in AI, expand access to hands-on learning opportunities, and prepare the next generation for success in an AI-enabled world.

Key Details:

  • Eligibility: Current NSF STEM Education awardees

  • Award Size: Up to $25,000 per supplement

  • Goal: Support ~100 multi-person teams nationwide as “Team Catalysts” to mentor and coordinate student and educator participation.

  • Activities may include: AI-related equipment/software, educator or student stipends, travel for events, community showcases, and mentorship.

  • Deadline: November 7, 2025

Aligned with the 2025 Executive Order on Advancing AI Education, the effort encourages project-based learning, educator innovation, and community engagement. NSF also urges collaborations with schools, nonprofits, and industry to strengthen learning outcomes and provide real-world AI applications.
