CS team receives NSF grant to Improve perception for small robots and drones

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign team, funded by a $1.2 million NSF grant, is pioneering the use of millimeter wave radar to enhance small robots' and drones' perception in challenging environments. By combining radar with machine learning, the team aims to enable robots to navigate through obstacles like fog, glass, and debris. This project, led by Professors Deepak Vasisht, Shenlong Wang, and Elahe Soltanaghai, will advance localization, mapping, and environmental interaction. It also includes outreach to educate and inspire students and community members.
