CHORUS Center Aims to Improve Autonomous Transportation Safety
As autonomous vehicles and connected transportation technologies become more common, researchers are working to ensure these systems remain reliable even when unexpected problems occur. Purdue University is leading a new research initiative called CHORUS, a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded center focused on making autonomous transportation safer and more resilient.
Supported by a $7 million NSF grant, the multi-university center is developing technologies that help connected and autonomous systems continue operating safely despite challenges such as sensor malfunctions, communication failures, GPS disruptions, cyberattacks, or human error. The project is led by Purdue professor Saurabh Bagchi and brings together researchers from Purdue University, Georgia Tech, the University of Southern California, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
