The central objective of the Active Resources project is to transform the CPS-VO web portal from a collaboration platform and passive repository of information into an active resource that provides access to tools and methods emerging from the CPS research community.  As a first step towards providing templates and infrastructure for the dissemination of open-source model libraries and a tool integration platform, we conducted a pilot CPS Design Challenge for undergraduate students from four universities, which was sponsored by Microsoft Research.

Rapid industrialization and increased pollution impose severe threats to the availability and quality of water resources worldwide. Currently, many wastewater treatment plants are discharging treated wastewater containing significant amounts of nutrients, such as nitrogen, ammonium, and phosphate ions, directly into the water system, posing significant threats to the environment. Finding a solution for effective treatment and safe discharge of wastewater has become an urgent and challenging task.

This project aims to enable cyber-physical systems that can be worn on the body in order to one day allow their users to touch, feel, and manipulate computationally simulated threedimensional objects or digital data in physically realistic ways, using the whole hand. It will do this by precisely measuring touch and movement-induced displacements of the skin in the hand, and by reproducing these signals interactively, via new technologies to be developed in the project. The resulting systems will offer the potential to impact a wide range of human

The proposed effort is a part of a global city action cluster team with the Nashville Fire Department and Metro Nashville Police Department. Both in prior research, as well as practice, incident forecasting and response are typically siloed by category and department, reducing effectiveness of prediction and precluding efficient coordination of resources.
