Internet of Things (IoT) can have a huge impact in engineering by leveraging state-of-the-art information and communication technologies (ICT). In practice, however, deploying IoT platforms to handle domain-specific engineering information along with sensor data of different types remains to be a challenging problem. To effectively support data sharing and interoperability and facilitate access by engineering tools, engineering modeling information and sensor data of different types need to be managed properly.

Enabling Demand Response from Cloud Data Centers - from Sustainable IT to IT for Sustainability
Abstract:
Submitted by Zhenhua Liu on February 1st, 2016
Abstract:
While driving on your favorite route to your destination, have you ever wondered why the technology you are seeing as far as traffic management is concerned is so antiquated? My answer to that is the people and organization that manage the traffic are not “cyber-physicists” and Google does not run our traffic lights.

Abstract:
The ubiquitous deployment of mobile and sensor devices is creating a new environment, namely, the Internet of Things (IoT), enabling a wide range of future Situation Awareness applications. Situation awareness is both a property and an application class of cyber-physical systems, which deals with recognizing when sensed data could lead to actionable knowledge. There are still many missing components that are required to have a rich and fully functional deployment of sensors with a continuous stream of actionable data.

Abstract:
The objective of the project is to demonstrate the synergistic use of a cyber-physical infrastructure consisting of smart-phone devices; cloud computing, wireless communication, and intelligent transportation systems to manage vehicles in the complex urban network – through the use of traffic controls, route advisories and road pricing – to jointly optimize drivers’ mobility and the sustainability goals of reducing energy usage and improving air quality.

Abstract:
Computation advances in physical time, but embedded computing has found value in logical time programming. Likewise, robotic systems can be simplified by programming in logical space, even though robots live and move in physical space. Our tools ask the roboticist to program on a logical abstraction of the physical. The principal new products are two drivers. One handles the problem of keeping the logical model consistent with physical data. The other enables logical control actions to have physical effect.
