Undergraduate Track Announcement

Undergraduate Track Announcement

The upcoming 2019 SaTC PI meeting, October 28-29, 2019, will for the first time include a dedicated track for up to 50 undergraduate students who have been supported on a SaTC-funded project.

As part of this track, the undergraduates will be exposed to SaTC topics and the research community at large. The undergraduates will have the opportunity to showcase their research to, and interact with, the greater SaTC community through the poster and demonstration session. This track is in response to the decreasing number of U.S. undergraduate students continuing on to a graduate degree.  This track is intended to inform the selected undergraduate students who are already actively involved in research, about pursuing graduate studies. The track strives to ensure that the students are at least aware of graduate school opportunities and reasons they might choose to pursue graduate study, providing them with as much pertinent information as possible in order to be of value if and when the students decide consider this path.

The preliminary agenda will be posted at the following link and updated frequently as activities and participation are confirmed: https://cps-vo.org/group/satc-pimtg19/program-agenda.

Each PI who is attending the SaTC PI meeting may nominate multiple undergraduate students (who will be enrolled at his/her institution as undergraduate student during the Fall 2019 semester). The submission of nominations is facilitated through Easychair at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=2019satcpimtg

As part of the nomination, the SaTC PI will be asked to submit the following documents (compiled into a single PDF file):

  • Student Resume
  • Student Statement (no more than 2 pages, single-spaced with reasonable fonts and margins, discussing their research project and results, why they want to participate in the SaTC PI meeting undergraduate research track, and their possible interest to pursue graduate studies)
  • PI Recommendation (no more than 2 pages, single-spaced with reasonable fonts and margins)

The deadline for submitting the nominations was extended to September 15, 2019. Nominations submitted after this date will be considered on a first-come first-served basis if additional space remains.

Notifications to PIs and undergraduate students will be sent out by October 1, 2019.

Undergraduate students who are invited to attend the undergraduate track will receive travel support through the SaTC program for up to $1,500 per student. Detailed instructions will be provided as part of the notification.
