Building Entrances

There are two visitor entrances to the DOT Headquarters. The primary visitor entrance is located on 

1. New Jersey Avenue SE
2. 4th Street SE, across from Harris Teeter

Security Screening

When you arrive, please:

1. Check in at the security desk in the lobby
   • You will need to provide a real ID or equivalent government-issued photo ID
   • Provide the DOT contact name and phone number: Briana James (Phone: 202-821-2382)
2. Proceed through an airport style security screening which includes and x-ray of your belongings and a walkthrough metal detector (magnetometer). Please note that food and beverage are allowed in the building. 
   • Special accommodations: If you use mobility assistance devices or have a medical condition that prevents you from using the magnetometer, please inform the Security Officer immediately to arrange an alternate screening.

Prohibited Items

For safety reasons, the following items are prohibited:

• Firearms
• Bladed, edged, or sharp objects
• Club-like items
• Aerosols
• Explosives and incendiaries
• Disabling chemicals
• Other dangerous items
