Track and Fallback: Intrusion Detection to Counteract Carjack Hacks with Fail-Operational Feedback
Submitted by Gedare Bloom on November 29th, 2017
Due to increasing use by civil and federal authorities and vast commercial and amateur applications, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) will be introduced into the National Air Space (NAS); the question is only how we can do this safely. NASA and the FAA are designing a new automated air traffic control system (NextGen) for all aircraft, manned or unmanned. New algorithms and tools need to be developed to enable computation of the complex questions inherent in designing such a system while proving adherence to rigorous safety standards.

This project is focused on developing data analytics and decision-making techniques for early detection and mitigation of soybean diseases via fusing data from ground robots, UAVs and satellites. We aim to collect RGB and hyperspectral image data for soybean diseases from research farms at Iowa State and via collaboration with the Iowa Soybean Association and the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (for satellite data).

Modern electric power grid is a complex, interconnected cyber physical system (CPS) that forms the lifeline of our society. Reliable, secure, and efficient operation of the grid are of paramount importance to national security and economic well-being. Recent trends in security indicate the increasing threat of cyber-based attacks, both in numbers and sophistication, on energy and other critical infrastructure systems of our nation and the world in general.

When dealing with safety-critical programmed molecular systems, it is essential to be able to observe the behavior of a system. The capability to log the states of a system over time, for later observation, is critical to help determine when and how faults have occurred.
