Cybersecurity’s human adversarial engagement is often lost in discussions of cybersecurity. We discuss how defenders’ focus on technology unintentionally creates vulnerabilities which can be exploited by threat actors. In particular, we discuss how the convergence of cyber awareness training and defensive technologies is exploited by threat actors with devastating consequences.

Abstract:
Despite the contributions of automation to vehicular (aircraft, automobile, etc.) safety and efficiency, the problems associated with technology-centered rather than human-centered automation are well known: decreased operator situation awareness, deterioration of manual control skills, difficulties operators experience when trying to jump into the loop when needed, and so forth.

Abstract:
The current project, collaboration between the MIT and the University of Michigan, concerns the development of complex models to describe driver decision making at intersections. MIT is focused on modeling and Michigan on data collection and method development. Two experiments have been conducted so far (24 subjects/experiment) using a NADS MiniSim driving simulator for which extensive programming was required. Subjects drove through 2 sets of 70 intersections following a lead vehicle (and being followed).
