The wide-area measurement systems technology using Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) has been regarded as the key to guaranteeing stability, reliability, state estimation, and control of next-generation power systems. However, with the exponentially increasing number of PMUs, and the resulting explosion in data volume, the design and deployment of an efficient wide-area communication and computing infrastructure is evolving as one of the greatest challenges to the power system and IT communities.

Abstract: One defining feature of cyberphysical systems is the fact that human users are closely intertwined with the physical system. Yet both the system and users themselves are often do not explicitly know how users would behave. A natural question arises: How do we design cyberphysical systems that effectively learn about their users, and optimize system behavior accordingly? This poster presents the idea of active regression as a vehicle to learn about users.

Abstract: Despite the integration of advanced cyber technologies in monitoring and communication in electric power networks, design and development of control systems, and in particular, Remedial Action Schemes (RAS) tend to evolve at a very slow pace. The objective of this research is to study new distributed system modeling techniques to faithfully capture the physical and communication  system characteristics  as well as the "wave" like propagation of some disturbances.
